The Busters Project

For too long, the only post-mastectomy options offered to breast cancer survivors have been heavy silicone prosthetics or surgical reconstruction. At last, the survivors themselves have stepped up to provide another option, designed from their own experience, to offer a comfortable and properly fitting accessory to help restore a sense of feminine dignity and normality for breast cancer survivors. Called BUSTERS, they are created by a dedicated team of vetted artisans (all survivors!) to share with other breast cancer survivors. They are lightweight, soft, machine washable and can be worn soon after surgery.

The Busters Project is not a charity – it is a breast cancer survivor’s project.  Busters are offered as a personal gift from one survivor to another, and the project is strictly volunteer and not-for-profit. The Busters Project has now evolved into a  nationwide grassroots survivor’s movement with over 3000 recipient/ members. Most of our recipients have joined us as co/sponsors by making a donation to “pay forward” the costs for the next pairs sent out. Any surplus funds at the end of the year are donated to supporting hospitals' breast cancer support programs.

We rely entirely on word-of-mouth to reach our recipients, so please help spread the word – it seems that  everybody knows someone who is a breast cancer survivor and would appreciate learning about Busters.

To request a pair of Busters, email Pat Anderson at:  thebustersproject@gmail.com

The Busters Project was created and developed in 2015 by Pat Anderson, a retired fiber artisan with over 50 years’ training and experience in creating similar projects, who is also a breast cancer survivor (BM(x) in 2006).  Busters are made from  Pat’s proprietary pattern by a  team of vetted master knitters who have been trained to artisan standards. Busters were designed for comfort and fit and come in sizes AA-cup through DD-cup,  They will remain true to shape and size through years of regular wear.  They are made of specially selected synthetic yarns and are lightweight, soft and machine washable and come in various soft and feminine pastel colors.
